RLTSC JUNIOR NEWSLETTER
JUNE 2008

Dear junior members and parents we are now well into the tennis season and it is time to give you information about the Tournament and some temporary changes which are required at present.

BUILDING WORKS AND JUNIOR SOCIAL

As you will be aware the club is undertaking building works which are currently causing a little disruption at the club. Parents should be aware that with outside portaloos situated in the car park it is impossible for the children to be kept safely away from the car park and the door to the club is frequently left open. Also lots of equipment which is normally stored in cupboards is being stored in areas usually used by the youngsters when not on court. Please could all parents take extra care of their own children at the club for the duration of the building works including during Friday night junior social. Please also remember that the club is only responsible for the children whilst they are on the tennis courts and children should not go on and off the courts without the permission of the coaches.

IMPORTANT CHANGES PLEASE NOTE

We have decided that during this time of disruption the two separate junior social sessions will be combined into one junior social session which will run from 5pm until 8pm.This will start immediately from Friday 13th June.

When children arrive at the courts after signing in they will be directed by the coaches to join groups of youngsters of the same age and ability. The extra coaching sessions will still take place at the previous times but all children will be entitled to play tennis throughout this period within their own ability groups and under the direction of the coaches. Supervision on court will cease promptly at 8.00pm when the junior social will finish and the junior’s priority over the courts ends. Please collect your children promptly as the coaches will finish at 8.00pm too.

Please can children remember NOT to take any food on to the tennis courts or any cans of fizzy drinks or glass bottles.

THE CLUB’S CLOSED JUNIOR TOURNAMENT

The junior tournament will take place on Friday 18th July during the junior social session. ALL junior members are invited to turn up and take part. It is a fun competition with prizes for everyone. The tournament will begin at 5.oopm and run until it is finished.

We will be laying on a BBQ and other food at approximately 5.30 -6.30pm and we will be selling the food to cover our costs and raise a small profit. So do come down ready to play lots of competitive tennis and spend the evening down at the club with your supper provided.

REMINDER TO RETURN BORROWED ITEMS

Gee has advised us that since the tennis equipment has been stored in the hall, due to the building work, he has lost 14 rackets and 70 of the 90 mini’s tennis balls! Could anybody who has borrowed balls or rackets please return them to the hall as soon as possible and could everyone keep an eye out for any lost balls behind the courts and in the shrubbery etc. The loss of the equipment will really affect the coaches ability to run coaching sessions for everyone effectively.

As these items are expensive to replace the junior committee feel that the proceeds of the sale of food at the tournament and on other Friday night occasions will be directed to replenishing such equipment and consequently prices will be fixed to add a slight profit rather than being sold at cost.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

Friday night junior social will finish on 25th July. It will start again on 5th September .Do remember that you are very welcome to continue playing tennis on Friday evenings (and at other times) throughout the summer but, there will be no organised tennis or supervision.

The committee have been asked to provide food such as pizzas and hot dogs at Friday evening social. As this can be quite burdensome for the few who help we have decided to compromise by way of providing food, for the time being, only on one Friday of each month. This will usually be the last Friday in the month but for this June it will be next Friday 13th June. So remember to bring some money if you want your supper at the club.

Don’t forget the Open Junior Tennis Tournament takes place at the club from 18th August for one week. Do feel free to come down to watch and be inspired by some excellent tennis and if anyone can spare an hour to help in the kitchen serving teas we would be very grateful.

SPORT RELIEF

We have received a certificate (see the notice board) and a thank you letter from Comic Relief for the money we raised for Sport Relief at the Easter party.
Well done to everyone and lets see if we can beat this sum next year!

MATCHES/ RESULTS

The summer season of league matches is now well under way and it remains for us to say good luck to everyone in their remaining matches this summer and in any tournaments and have a good summer.

A copy of the minutes of the last committee meeting is available for view on the notice board in the clubhouse.
