You will notice that we are now intending to run the
Friday social during the summer holidays, as this is a better time for
tennis and encourages the juniors to play during the summer holidays.
Junior Closed Tournament 8th July and
14th July - This is the tournament just for members of the club. Details of
how to enter will follow later.
BBQ and prize giving 14th July
Open Tennis Tournament 20th-24th August
- This is a huge tournament where lots of very good players come from all
over the country. Do feel free to come and watch and be inspired.
We thought it would be useful to let you know what you get for your
membership:
Full Junior Member and Full Mini Member:
Tennis all year round
You are entitled to come and play tennis at any time during the year. You
can bring friends or play with another member of the club. If you bring a
friend who is not a member, remember that they will need to pay the visitors
fee of £2.50 to play. You can do this by buying a stamp costing £2.50 (£1,
50p, 20p and 10p coins accepted) from the machine in the foyer opposite the
office and sticking this into the visitor’s book which is on the shelf below
the machine. If you want to play on the courts during the winter when it is
dark you will need money for the lights. £1 gives you 15 minutes of light.
You will need to change the £1 for a token from the machine in the foyer and
then put the token into the lights machine for the court you are going to
use. The light machines are located on the wall opposite the office.
Remember to ask any adult for help if required. Just remember that on Courts
1-6 priority is given to adults and to organised lessons/club activities, so
you may be asked to vacate these courts for the outside courts if it is a
busy time.
Friday Tennis Social
You are entitled to join the coach led tennis socials on Friday evenings.
Younger members up to and including year 6 have the earlier session from
5-7pm. Older members ie those at secondary school have a session from 7-9pm.
These sessions are free to members. Guests are permitted on an occasional
basis (up to a maximum of 6 times) on payment of the £2,50 visitor fee and
signed in by a member, but are expected to join as club junior members if
attending regularly as the socials are provided for club members.
Saturday Tennis Social
You are entitled to come and join the family social playing, tennis on a
Saturday afternoon between 3-5pm when there will be a helper available to
play tennis with the juniors while the adults are playing tennis. Juniors
under 11years old must not be left at the club alone during Saturday social
as we do not have a signing in and out procedure or any supervision
arrangements. The Coach on duty will integrate junior members into doubles
matches when they feel that the junior has reached the standard to enjoy
these games.
Junior Squash
You are entitled to book a court online £2.50 for 45mins. Probably best to
get your parents to do this for you as the money is taken by Direct Debit
each month for courts used.
Sunday afternoon from 1.30pm-5pm 3 sessions. £4 to play. Contact Julian
Craxton on 07711 748557 for times of groups and read the newsletter sent out
by the club.
Wednesday 3.45pm -5.15pm 2 sessions. £4 to play. Contact Derek Thorpe on
07887 560601 for further details.
Improve your tennis and squash by having lessons with our coaches. Contact
Gee on 07793319847 for tennis or Derek Thorpe on 07887 560601 and Julian
Craxton on 07711748557 for squash. They can give you advice on lessons
available and costs.
FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD
We have had lots of requests to provide food again during the Friday
socials, so with a little help we hope to be able to have pizza and possibly
other foods, available each week. Remember to bring some money.
In order to provide the food consistently we felt it best to make the food
provision part of the Friday night social parent helper rota. This is of
course a new arrangement and we are asking for everyone’s help and
co-operation to see if we can get it to work.
Parent Helper /
Food Rota
The parent helper rota, which includes a parent allocated for the
responsibility of providing food, has been sent out recently and can be
viewed on the notice board in the foyer. If you are unable to do the
allocated time then please could you swap with another helper. A list of all
members and their telephone numbers can be found in the foyer of the tennis
club.
Details of what is involved were included with the rota and just for
clarification we are hoping that the parent on the food rota will not mind
buying the pizzas for their session and reimbursing themselves from the
float /takings. Please remember to bring your receipt as this helps our
accounting procedures.
Mini Tennis
Ever wondered what mini tennis is all about, then take a look at the mini
tennis website which explains the Red, Orange and Green levels. http://www.minitennis.com.
RLTSC will be adopting the full mini tennis programme from Easter this year.
This will include the introduction of the awards for each level. In addition
to this Gee will be arranging Mini tennis match play for Friday nights.
Minutes
Minutes of the last junior committee meeting, held on the 25th January, will
be posted on the board at the club. If you have any comments about the
issues raised and would like to take a more active role in the running of
the junior section, please feel free to come and join us at the next
committee which will be held at the club on the 6th March at 8pm. You do not
have to be an adult member of the club to join the junior committee.
