Release 2009: Radlett Lawn Tennis and Squash Club holds another
successful LTA Sanctioned Open Tennis Tournament
Radlett Lawn Tennis and Squash Cub hosted a Grade 3 Tennis Tournament
between 17th and 22nd August. The event was sponsored by the Alan
Hawkshaw Music Scholarship Foundation which gives scholarships and
assistance to underprivileged young musicians whom, without the aid of
the Foundation would be unable to realise their potential. Alan
Hawkshaw, a resident of Radlett has been a member of Radlett Lawn Tennis
and Squash Club for over 30 years and has sponsored the LTA Tournament
for the last 5 years.
Radlett Lawn Tennis and Squash Club has held an LTA Sanctioned Open
Tournament for over 50 years. In that time some of the club’s current
coaches have had success in this tournament. Most recently in 2008
Jordan Miles won the Mens event, 2007 Marc Beckles won the 21U event,
2006 George Coupland won 18U and 21U events, 2005 George Coupland won
the 16U and 18U events and 1982 the club’s Head Coach Gurinder Chhina
won the 18U event.
Competitors and their families were very impressed with the recently
refurbished clubhouse and extended car park. 249 players from across the
UK entered a total of 411 events, and at peak times all 11 courts were
in use. Radlett’s Joshua Ben, Jamie Gall, Timothy Binns and Paul Fenton
all took part. Joshua Ben won the 8U event and Jamie Gall was runner up.
Spectators were aplenty and were able to enjoy food provided by
volunteers from the club.

2008 Tennis progress reports
Tuesday 5pm: DailyReport
It was doom & gloom when rain struck
the first morning, on Monday, of the Radlett Junior Open 2008 (sponsored
by Alan Hawkshaw). By 10am all the courts were busy with teenagers
competing with Olympic Spirit.
The Under 10's took up the
challenge on Tuesday and despite torrential rain, completed their round
robin matches demonstrating not only technical prowess but also true
grit to overcome the poor conditions.
All in all, Good Food, wonderful
tennis. Come along and join us at the Radlett Tennis & Squash Club. More
news tomorrow.

MONDAY 21 TO SATURDAY 26 AUGUST
Do you know about the prestigious LTA Official
Junior Open Tournament that RLTSC has been holding for a number of years?
Are you aware that the Radlett Tournament is rated as one of the best in the
country?
If you are like me then probably not. Well,
this was the case until last year when I was roped in to help organise it. I
was amazed at the talent of the youngsters that entered. For the last few
years we have had Grand Prix status in the under 12 and 16 age groups but
for the first time this year, due to the success of the 2005 Tournament, the
LTA have granted us Grand Prix status across all age groups. Grand
Prix status means that children can improve their LTA ranking by playing at
these events. We therefore expect to attract some of the best juniors in
the country.
The Tournaments are sponsored by The Alan
Hawkshaw Music Scholarship Foundation and we thank Alan once again for his
very generous support.
Unfortunately during the Tournament members
play will be restricted but we do hope you will take the opportunity to
support the Club and watch great tennis. The bar will be open from 18:00
each evening and refreshments are available throughout the day.
We look forward to seeing
you.
